Most Popular Tree Banner

Perhaps the main reason Christmas trees are popular is because they stay green during the winter months whilst most other plant life tends to shed and /or lose its color.

For this very reason our ancestors used them in winter festivals to remind them of the coming of spring.

According to the History Channel: “Germany is credited with starting the Christmas tree tradition as we now know it in the 16th century when devout Christians brought decorated trees into their homes.”

That tradition travelled with the Germans as they immigrated to America.

The rest, shall we say, is history.

Christmas trees have been sold in the states since 1850. Approximately 77 million are planted each year with around 35 million of them being shipped or sold directly from Christmas tree farms. The trees take 6-8 years to mature and the most popular versions include the Scotch Pine, Douglas Fir, Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir and White Pine.

Perhaps the most famous Christmas tree is the one located at the Rockefeller Center in New York City – a tradition which started 80+ years ago in 1931.

These trees are not only genuinely aesthetically pleasing, but the amount of historical significance which they carry easily puts them in the conversation with the other most popular tree types such as the Palm, Oak, Redwood, Maple, Buckeye, etc.
